Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-11-29 Summary: Inexpensive, effective ... I was nervous about this purchase; so many choices for Home theatres.. component or all-in-one, how much to pay.. what are all these cables types/formats.. For my needs, this was a low cost (at $240) and effective solution. Setting things up was easy; lots of color-coded speaker wires. Needed only to purchase one TOSLINK cable to connect my Xbox 360 to it and I'm done. The only (potential) downside is that this device does not have any HDMI ports; so if you have multiple HDMI sources (console+dvd+cable?), you will ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-01-03 Summary: Great Little System! ... This system was purchased for our bedroom, as we already have a larger system for the living room. We needed a switchable system that could handle both a HDTV and DVD recorder, and yet would not be too expensive for our budget. After considerable research of consumer reviews, we decided on the Onkyo HT-S3100. It arrived 2 business days after placing the order, and we couldn't be more pleased with this system. It has all the color coded input and output jacks that we could have wanted, and also has a great sound - which ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-10-31 Summary: Very happy with this home stereo ... I bought this with hopes it was going to be able to fill my living room with full sound. Since I have a very open floor plan, my ceiling in the living room is about 20 feet high and flows into the second floor of the house over a large balcony. This stereo definitely has the power to fill the room with sound. I can easy fill the entire house with sound. I haven't yet used this for music, only movies and T.V. I tested it out using a few DVDs like Star Wars Episode II, III and to me it sounds just like the theater. Overall ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-09-10 Summary: Good entry level 5.1. ... For the price and simplicity of setup, you can't get any better. The sub leaves much to be desired, if I was to do it over again I wouldn't have gone with passively powered. Speaker build and sound quality are better than any other <$300 dollar system I have ever heard. ...more
[5] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-02 Summary: Onkyo HT - S3100 ... Fantastic home theatre in a box. I was always fearful of this type of home center. I used to sell Denon products and own a Denon amp and a large home theatre set up in my basement. I wanted something for the living room that I could hook up a DVD, DVR, and X-box to. This product does it all. I was a little leary of a non-powered sub woofer. But this system comes through, big time. A friend of mine will be ordering one soon, and I would recommend this to everyone. Sounds as good as it looks. ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | The HT-S3100 covers today's key entertainment options. The HT-S3100 has a trademark amplification design that puts power and precision before all else. Onkyo's High Current Power Supply (H.C.P.S.) concept ensures that you will always have the power to respond to the wide dynamics of surround sound. When the sound is attenuated in a conventional amplifier, the audio signal drops close to the noise floor at low volumes, thereby tainting the signal. Onkyo's Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry adjusts...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-06-19 Summary: Great price, great system ... It's everything you could hope for at this price. Good sound, solid receiver, and all wires included. I would recommend upgrading your cables (it comes with very basic stuff), but there should plenty of money left over to do that. The only thing it's missing is audio support through HDMI (it's video passthrough only), but you have to pay as much for a receiver as I did for this whole system to get that. Overall, you can't beat the value. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-08-13 Summary: Onkyo HT-SR800 ... I was able to accompish two projects purchasing this unit. First, was to own a very good theater system for under $500. The second, was to be able to eliminate the need for a second receiver which powered my home stereo system. I took the advise from some in their past reviews regarding the speaker wires. Did not use, purchased a heavier gauge wire. Only other feature I would liked to have had, would be smaller size surround speakers. No regrets with this purchase. It is hard to find a product that will meet all your ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-07-01 Summary: Great sound and connectivity ... I bought this system for my home theater and I love it. My media room already had four speakers (two front and two rear) flush mounted in the walls, but I wanted to buy a full Home Theater in a Box (HTiB) to get the other speakers for full surround. I also planned to hook this system up to a PS3 for Blu-Ray playback. Most HTiB systems come with a receiver that has built a built in DVD player. I didn't want to get a wasted DVD that way. Also, those systems have very few input options. What I loved about this box is ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-04 Summary: Simply the best HTIB! ... I recently added this product to my living room for my Sony 52XBR5 and PS3. I must say, after setting everything up, which did take quite a bit of time, I am stunned at the level of performance. I purchased this product for $750 and there is absolutely nothing I can say that could give this HTIB justice. Runs DTS-MA and TrueHD with ease through the PS3 w/ the use of an HDMI cable. Plenty of connectivity options w/ 4 HDMI-in so my PS3, Xbox Elite, DirecTV, and Wii and easily connected. I will work on getting a few pictures. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-10 Summary: Excellent Value ... Excellent sound quality for HTIB. Faithfully reproduces everything from music, to movies, to video games. Great surround sound accuracy/immersion. The speakers are well constructed and easy to set up... the Audyssey EQ microphone makes for quick calibration. I love the variety of inputs on the receiver... there's also a great selection of decoders to choose from. Though I don't use it, there is the capability to add a second Speaker group B to the receiver. You can output a different source to speaker group B, or use ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-05 Summary: Fantastic System! ... Just finished hooking up this system, and it is fabulous; I couldn't be happier. And better yet, I received a HUGE, 50% discount! Seems someone in Raleigh, NC initially ordered this system, but declined the shipment due to a minor scuff on the box. Everything inside the box was in *perfect* working order, however. Another top notch, five star product from Onkyo! ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-01-06 Summary: Truly amazing performance at the price point ... This is my second go-around with an Onkyo home theater receiver in the past year. My first purchase was Onkyo's HTIB system that included the TX-SR506 7.1 receiver, speakers/subwoofer and single-disk DVD player. My family really enjoyed the first receiver until our satellite dish got struck by lightening and took out the receiver. Yeah, that sucked. Fortunately (and miraculously) the DVR, DVD and new plasma TV were untouched. The TX-SR606 was purchased this past November to replace the zapped one. If it's possible, ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-01-07 Summary: I like it... ... It was easy to hook up and it's easy to use. I also like the look of it. ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-01-06 Summary: Make sure you have good speakers ... Great product - I learned that you need to have quality speakers paired with this reciever for proper functionality. I tried to take a short cut and re-use some old speakers that were integral to an older DVD home theatre setup, but the old speakers did not work well with the reciever (intermittent audio dropouts, and ultimately audio stopped working altogether). I got a 5 speaker set (I already had a powered subwoofer), so I went with the Polk RM75s. HUGE difference once I hooked up quality speakers to the reciever. ...more
[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-01-06 Summary: Timely delivery, quality product ... My second Onkyo receiver...the first one lasted 20 years. The quality of the product appears to continue. Amazon shipped it quickly and it arrived faster than expected. Set up takes some time but the use of HDMI (4+1) takes some of the work and the tangle out of it. Using Bose Accostimass (also 20 years old) for front and sub....sounds very good but am considering center channel and other 4 speaker options. ...more
[5] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-01-06 Summary: Onkyo TX-SR606 ... The system is easy to install, has a great sound and is easy to use. The remote is particularly less complicated than most. The cost is reasonable in comparison to other system with similar feathers. ...more
