I used the digital optical cables for both my 360 and comcast HD box. I'd say it makes a noticeable difference. It thumps my entire condo (1 bed/1bath). The best settings, I think, are on Game mode and having the side speakers positioned for Surround Sound. Don't let the price fool you on this, most times you get what you paid for, not here, this things is worth double the money. It sounds better than systems I have paid 700 bucks for.
