As the previous owner of an MX-J700, I was very pleasantly surprised... From the outside, the HX-D77 looks pretty outlandish compared to other mini systems on the market, but once you power this thing-up you will forget all about appearances. For a mini-system, sound from the main speakers is crisp and clear. The highs are crystal clear, mids are well developed, and the bass is fantastic! The narrow main tower is a nice touch as well. [2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-27 Summary: More Bang for your buck ... This is a great product. It sounds great on cds or dvds. Read the manual before you use the product and it will make sense of the remote. This is the third JVC stereo I have had and the sound is better then any other brands I have heard. My only complaint is the subwoofer never completely turns off so if you live in apartment with really thin walls turn this down to low so the neighbors don't complain. ...more

The DVD functionality solidifies the deal that is truly being offered by JVC. My only complaint is that JVC classifies this system as a micro system...there is nothing micro about this system, atleast the speakers. ...more

I purchased this product over six months ago and waited to review given reported problems with JVC HDILA and related products in the past. I did purchase it refurbished and had a problem right out of the box (would only turn on when it felt like it). However, JVC and authorized service techs were very responsive, making 3 visits before they found a loose cable fitting that caused the issue. It has been trouble free ever since. JVC's HD-58S998 58" Ultra Slim 1080p HDILA Projection HDTV was the first to actually exceed my expectations and meet my needs for brightness and detail for use in an all glass sun room. The only other TV I found to provide slightly better natural colors, but not better details, were the latest Pioneer/Elite plasmas which can only be used in rooms with no reflections.
