I did my thorough research before i bought this thing and now i am very happy with it. I got this system for $499.00. you can never beat this price with any other system when it comes to quality. I hooked up my ps3 and cable dvr box using HDMI. I didnt hook up my DVD player on to it because when i can play everyything on the PS3, why i need to hook the DVD player using other input devices and take a step back from HDMI. The dvd player ...more

[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-10 Summary: I'm loving it! ... Well I dove into a HTIB not feeling terribly comfortable with the quality of speakers that would come with a complete solution. the Onkyo HT-SP908 has been a peasant suprise for a HTIB. Onkyo HT-SP908 7.1 Channel Home Theater System When the huge box arrived, I made sure to inspect things carfully before the UPS guy left. A friend purchased a similar system that arrived a couple days before with gaping holes in the box and crushed speakers inside. At over 100lbs, no shipper is going to be kind to this type of delivery. ...more

[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-12-19 Summary: Good system for the price ... Hello everyone, I have had my system for about a few weeks now, and feel pretty good about it. It makes a big difference compared to the LG 50" TV plasma speakers. The only thing I don't like about it is the cheep speaker wires it comes with. I suppose I will upgrade to better wires later. It also does a clicking sound from the relay when the broadcast switches from Dolby to regular sound on commercials and back again while watching TV. Not a big deal. Another issue I have noticed if you leave the sub plugged in it ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-06-19 Summary: Great price, great system ... It's everything you could hope for at this price. Good sound, solid receiver, and all wires included. I would recommend upgrading your cables (it comes with very basic stuff), but there should plenty of money left over to do that. The only thing it's missing is audio support through HDMI (it's video passthrough only), but you have to pay as much for a receiver as I did for this whole system to get that. Overall, you can't beat the value. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-07-01 Summary: Great sound and connectivity ... I bought this system for my home theater and I love it. My media room already had four speakers (two front and two rear) flush mounted in the walls, but I wanted to buy a full Home Theater in a Box (HTiB) to get the other speakers for full surround. I also planned to hook this system up to a PS3 for Blu-Ray playback. Most HTiB systems come with a receiver that has built a built in DVD player. I didn't want to get a wasted DVD that way. Also, those systems have very few input options. What I loved about this box is ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-08-13 Summary: Onkyo HT-SR800 ... I was able to accompish two projects purchasing this unit. First, was to own a very good theater system for under $500. The second, was to be able to eliminate the need for a second receiver which powered my home stereo system. I took the advise from some in their past reviews regarding the speaker wires. Did not use, purchased a heavier gauge wire. Only other feature I would liked to have had, would be smaller size surround speakers. No regrets with this purchase. It is hard to find a product that will meet all your ...more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-09-04 Summary: Great system for price ... I wanted to add a surround sound system to our seasonal home without breaking the bank, and this one was the perfect solution. Though it doesn't deliver quite the sound as the professional audiophile system in our primary home, it was a small fraction of the price of that system and produces surround sound that's quite acceptable for our ears. As other reviewers have noted, it lacks any HDMI inputs (though that's not really a problem because there are plenty of other connectors that allow comparable quality) or a microphone ...more
