I started w/ the Onkyo 706, which sounded ok.. but a minor problem w/ the supplied mic forced a returned and decided to take the plunge and get a Denon AV 989. Having owned previous Denon products, this unit was as expected. Within the week, had a small problem w. the unit and had to rma. I talked myself into the Onkyo 876 for the audio, and HQV video chip. Audio is great, and the remote fantastic. The video wasn't as good as the Toshiba XDE I also bought, and otherwise would give it 5 stars. It does run warm, and ...more

Overall, very happy with the quality. Be aware that in order to use the Powered Zone 2, you must have analog input for the device(s) you wish to listen to. (For example, I want to listen to my AppleTV which has my iTunes library on it outside by the pool. I must say that I was a bit hesitant about ordering this receiver, but I don't regret my purchase one bit. I previously had an Onkyo home theater receiver, but it does not compare to this receiver. It gives my speakers a whole new dimension. I love the various listening modes and I am still playing with the Audessey feature and like what it does and how it brings out hidden and subtle passages. I have had no issues at all and Amazon was first rate in the shipping of this to me.It's very heavy though and as sme have experienced, it can get very hot if not well ventilated. I solved this with an aftermarket AV Cooler which sits atop the receiver and exhausts air out the back of my enclosed cabinet. You won't go wrong with this unit and will have nothing but smiles on yours and your guests faces when you hit the power key. ...more
