Due to a waiting period of 2-3 months for a replacement, I ordered the HT-S7100 7.1. It was $200.00 less and it was shipped in 3 days. The system was easy to set up and as with all the Onkyo reviews I have read the speaker wire was cheesey. The receiver is a beefed up SR606 which had good reviews from C-Net. I'll just be brief because no one really wants to read a book, they just want to know Pros/Cons. Pro: Sounds Great, Really Good Reciever, Speaker Stands, Multiple Connections, iPod is controlled by remote, Audyssey works great, Seperate Volum control that controls only recieve.... Setup was a breeze, I hardly needed the manual other than to tell me what speakers to use for 5.1 vice 7.1 (won't need those till we move again in a year and have a larger living room, or if I pump them into another room). The second, was to be able to eliminate the need for a second receiver which powered my home stereo system. I took the advise from some in their past reviews regarding the speaker wires. Did not use, purchased a heavier gauge wire. Only other feature I would liked to have had, would be smaller size surround speakers. No regrets with this purchase. I would recommend upgrading your cables (it comes with very basic stuff), but there should plenty of money left over to do that. The only thing it's missing is audio support through HDMI (it's video passthrough only), but you have to pay as much for a receiver as I did for this whole system to get that. My media room already had four speakers (two front and two rear) flush mounted in the walls, but I wanted to buy a full Home Theater in a Box (HTiB) to get the other speakers for full surround. I also planned to hook this system up to a PS3 for Blu-Ray playback. Most HTiB systems come with a receiver that has built a built in DVD player. I didn't want to get a wasted DVD that way. My first impressions were that everything was larger than expected, the sub sits about a foot and a half off of the floor. I had planned to use my tv to recieve hdmi from a dvd player and an xbox 360 and then pass the audio through a single optical cable to the onkyo.
